VoiceWell

VoiceWell · Private beta

A clearer voice, in a few steps.

The current beta needs a separate virtual audio device. This guide describes the working route without changing macOS default devices.

1. Install BlackHole separately

Use the official BlackHole project to obtain BlackHole 2ch. Review its installer instructions and license. VoiceWell does not bundle or silently install it. Installation may require administrator approval or a restart; don’t interrupt an active call.

2. Choose your physical microphone

In VoiceWell, select the connected microphone you speak into. Choose BlackHole 2ch as delivery in Settings → Advanced. Press Start and grant VoiceWell microphone permission. Keep Noise reduction and Auto Level on initially.

3. Choose the processed input in your app

In Discord, open User Settings → Voice & Video → Input Device → BlackHole 2ch. In HeyClicky or another AI voice app, choose BlackHole 2ch in its microphone selector. These are setup instructions, not a claim that every app has been individually verified.

Keep playback on your existing headphones/output. Never choose BlackHole for system playback: that could send playback into the microphone route. Apps restricted to System Default aren’t currently covered without changing defaults.

4. Listen safely

Open Test My Mic, select known headphones, and enable Listen live. It starts muted. Raise the headphone-only volume gently from around 5%. Closing the test stops listening while normal processing continues. Speakers are blocked; ambiguous physical interfaces require confirmation.

Optional: desk and travel microphones

Stop processing to choose your preferred and fallback microphones in Smart Microphone Switching settings. Turn the option on explicitly. If neither is ready, capture waits. A manual mic selection pauses automation until you resume it. Brief switching gaps are normal.

What’s verified?

RØDE NT-USB+ capture and processed BlackHole delivery have been verified locally on an M3 Max Mac. Earlier QuickTime/EarPods listening was positive; the latest distance-leveling changes still need fresh listening confirmation. Intel, other Macs, physical dock disconnections and every downstream voice app remain unverified.
